DETAIL OF THE RACE

1. Date

23rd – 24th May 2009

2. Venue

The brand new, beautiful, scenic and enchanting Teluk Bahang Dam, situated at the north-western tip of Penang Island which is about 25km from Georgetown, Penang.

4. Racing & Competition Classes

a) Mixed class using standard boat
~ crews must contain a minimum 8 women paddlers and maximum 12 women paddlers

b) Junior class
~ competitors under the age of 18 in the year 2009

c) Senior class
~ competitors must be over the age of 40 in the year 2009

Organizing Committee reserves the right to refuse any entry into the races at its sole discretion.

5. Rules & Regulations

The 30th PIDBF race will use PIDBF and/or IDBF Competition Regulations & Rules of Racing.

6. Races
There should be a minimum of 5 entries for each race to run.

7. Boats

a) Standard boat shall consist of a maximum of 20 men/women: 18 paddlers, 1 steersman & 1 drummer.
b) Small boat shall consists of a maximum of 12 men/women: 10 paddlers, 1 steersman & 1 drummer.

8. Distance

500 meters straight course only.

9. Racing Style

All paddlers must be seated and remain on the paddlers’ seat throughout the race. Any crews offending this rule may render disqualification.

10. Racing Format

All teams will follow the races from the early heats, repechage/semi-final and final.

a) (III) Penang Race

~ for Penang teams only and is a selection race for representing the State of Penang in overseas races

b) (II) Malaysia Races
~ for Malaysian teams only
~ 1st three winners for Club, Corporate & Government Inter-Dept events will be qualified to the International Premier event of the

(I) International Races
~ 1st three winners for Junior & Senior events will be qualified into their respective events in the (I) International Races

c) (I) International Races

~ for Foreign teams and also the 1st three winners from (II) Malaysia Races events

11. Paddles

Competitors may use his/her own paddles which are approved by IDBF in accordance with the IDBF Standard (Model 202a). If the paddle is not approve, competitor must bring the paddle to the “Paddle Checking“ a day before competition starts.

13. Registration Fee

Foreign teams ~ A registration fee of USD 50.00 per event, for teams not taking our ground arrangement package deal.
Malaysian teams ~ A registration fee of RM 50.00 per event, for teams not taking our ground arrangement package deal.

14. Ground Arrangement Package

The Organizing Committee has made arrangements for a choice of accommodation from 3-stars to 4-stars hotels. All the official accommodation locations are 15 – 20 minutes from the regatta site by car or bus. Crews are advised to confirm their ground arrangement packages as early as possible due to this peak tourist season in Penang.

The package cost from USD 40.00 per person per day includes:
∑ Airport transfer (for group)
∑ Hotel accommodation (twin sharing basis)
∑ Breakfast at hotel
∑ Transport to & from race course/celebration dinner
∑ Lunch box during race day

15. Celebration Dinner

A celebration dinner will be held on Sunday, 24th May after completion of the races. More details will be posted in the next bulletin.

All payments are to be made by electronic transfer in USD (for Foreign teams) & direct deposit in RM (for Malaysian teams) not later than 31 March 2009. Bank details are as follows:
