The Plenitude International Dragon Boat Festival was a huge success!

Held at the Teluk Bahang Dam, 26 teams from various countries including Guam Australia, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, the Philippines, Singapore and United Arab Emirates (UAE) competed in this exciting and much anticipated event in Penang.

 

The event, launched by the Right Honourable Chief Minister of Penang, Y.A.B Lim Guan Eng attracted many supporters from all walks of life, including foreign tourists. And despite the hot weather, the supporters lined along the dam and under the tents to cheer for their favourite teams. 

 

The Indonesia Rowing and Canoeing Association (PODSI) which is the Indonesian National swept away  5 out of 6 of races.

 

 

Cameron Devenny from The Royal Australian Navy commended the organising committee for the excellent organisation of the event. She added that their team truly enjoyed their stay in Penang and looking forward to come back inDecember.

 

Another participant, Michelle Wu from Guam commented, “I love Penang because of the cultural diversity and ethnic harmony. We will visit Penang again in the future.”

 

At the end of the two days, competing teams and visitors alike had a truly enjoyable race, forging lasting friendships and good memories. 

 

The Plenitude Penang Dragon Boat Photography Competition managed to capture all the excitement of the 2-day competition. At a press conference held on the 27th June at KDU, winners of the competition were announced.

1st Prize : Lim Lean Eng     (RM 500 cash prize)

2nd  Prize :  Neoh Choo Hoon   (RM 300 cash prize)

3rd  Prize : Song Jin Tek     (RM 100 cash prize)

Consolation : Soon Chin Boon     (RM 50 cash prize)

  Teoh Siang Hooi     (RM 50 cash prize)

The honourable judges are Mr. Looi Teoong Hong , Chairman of Photography Society of Penang, Mr. Mac Tan (Head of Interior Design Department and Senior Photography Lecturer at the Equator Academy of Art and Ms Chew Win Win, a Lecturer of the Design Department in KDU Penang.

INFORMATION BULLETIN NO.2

 

All Dragon Boat Crews

Great news ! We have received tremendous response from near and far for this festival. We have crews coming all the way from Hawaii, Australia, UAE, Philippines, China, Cambodia, Macao, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore; and not forgetting other states of Malaysia. Those who have not submitted their entries, please hurry and don’t miss the boat.

 

Confirmed Entry Form

All participating crews are required to return the Confirmed Entry Form together with Entry Fee to PIDBF no later than 15 April 2011.

 

Entry Fee An entry fee of US$40 for small boat and US$60 for standard boat; per event to be paid by each team.

 

Outline Programme

 

 

The above programme is provisional and is provided to assist crews with their initial planning. This programme is subject to changes. The competition classes by day will be confirmed after all confirmed Entry Forms have been received.

 

Ground Arrangement Package

The Organizing Committee has made arrangements for a choice of accommodation from 3-stars to 4-stars hotels. All the official accommodation locations are 15 – 20 minutes from the regatta site by car or bus.

 

We managed to obtain a lower price that ranges from US$35 to US$52 per person only, per night which include:

1. Airport transfer (for group)

2. Hotel accommodation

3. Transport to & from race course & celebration dinner site

4. Daily breakfast at hotel

 

 

 

Meanwhile, optional half day tour can be arranged at US$20 per person upon request.

Information Bulletin No1

 

The Penang Dragon Boat Federation Committee (PDBF) in conjunction with the 32nd Penang International Dragon Boat Festival 2011 cordially invites Crews from around the world to participate in our dragon boat race which will be held at the Teluk Bahang Dam, Penang, Malaysia on 11 and 12 June 2011. This event is fully supported by the Penang State Government and is an affiliated festival of the International Dragon Boat Federation. For your information, Penang has more than 30 years of experience in organizing dragon boat races benefited with the technical expertise of a large number of experienced IDBF Technical Officials.

 

Competition Regulations and Racing Rules

This race will comply with IDBF Competition Regulations and will be under the IDBF Rules of Racing. All participating crews are required to return the Provisional Entry Form to PDBF no later than 28 February 2011.

 

Divisions, Racing & Competition Classes and Distances

The Competition Divisions, Racing and Competition Classes that will be contested are listed (in grey) below, provided sufficient entries are received for each competition class.

 

 

 

 

Division

Premier – the primary class of racing. There are no restrictions on competitor’s age. Open to all crews.

Senior 40 – Aged 40 years and above (born on or before year 1971) Junior Under 18 – Aged 12 years but under 18 years (born between year 1994 and

1999)

Junior Under 23 – Aged 12 years but under 23 years (born between year 1989 and 1999)

 

Racing Class

Open – no restriction on crew composition

Women – for female crews only including the Drummer and Steerer

Mixed – Standard Boat : minimum of eight (8) and maximum of twelve (12) female paddlers

            -  Small Boat : minimum of four (4) and maximum of six (6) female paddlers

 

Distance

250 & 500 metres only

 

Racing Style seated

18 to 20 paddlers

1 drummer

1 steerer

4 reserves

 

Small Boat

- maximum 14 competitors

8 to 10 paddlers
